Villains of the Multiverse, Sentinel Tactics: Battle for Broken City, and Sentinel Tactics: For Profit Preorder!

Hey Luther, quick question if you don't mind fielding it.

With the Tactics Tournement scene underway and the format solidifying, are you guys giving any extra thought to how viable the new characters are for tournement play? For example, with the nature of limited time per game, a character like Proletariat and his particular power kit do not lend itself well to that format. Or do you just care that each new character brings an interesting and distinctive kit to the game where tournement viability is an afterthought?

Personally, I think Proletariat is AWESOME for skirmishes. I used him to great effect in a game for fun recently. Crushed everything.

I think that people are going for the easy/straight-forward strategies, and that more complex characters will become more attractive as the meta for the tournament grows.

That said, I'll let Luther share his own opinions, of course.

Wait…  Proletariat doesn't lend himself well to the format?  How are people playing him?!?

I start with Shared Burden and Defensive Sacrifice, first turn split and move and maybe attack.  I can get within range in the next turn or so, just like most other heroes.  Remember you can use the split to "move" onto difficult terrain.  And then if enemies attack you can decide whether you want more clones or less (and move them closer to the enemy!)  Proletariat is actually about as mobile as Legacy (or more mobile with no elevation changes).

Skirmishes he is AWESOME! No doubt! But with the most recent tournament map setup (turrets) and the low time limit, I don't see much room for him to use his brand of map control effectivly. At least, until we get word on if the talked about Visionary/Stealthbot shenanigans are legal.

It will certainly be interesting to see how Tactics tournament play evolves.

Ok, speculation time. I asked Christopher if Unity was Chokepoint's nemesis. The answer:

Which leads me to think, is Con going to be a playable hero in the final expansion? Because that's the only thing that this alludes to. Hmm...

It could be that story-wise Chokepoint and Unity have a rivalry but in-game they won't share a nemesis symbol. His comments could point that direction as well. Its going to be very interesting to see how all of these play out!

@Foote

Christopher and I disagree with you on Proletariat. If we get a chance to play a skirmish at East, we can show you why :D

Please and thank you!

He is my favorite character to play in Tactics, well, maybe tied with Ambuscade. I'm very much up for learning a wrinkle I must be overlooking.

I only actually practiced him in the tournament environment (after the tournament) and he did great!  Ambuscade's trap everything intro was thwarted by Proletariat cloning all over the traps.  As for the hazard spaces, he avoided those (like most people did).  I would love to put up strategy guides for each of the Tactics heroes, but I sort of want to wait for the first whole tournament to finish so as to give others the chance to build their own.

My various theories, now that we know more:

The crystals:

We've seen a blue one (reveals weaknesses and how to open/close them)

We've seen a gold one (makes energy solid)

Proletariat may have been exposed to one (Duplication of material)

Finally, we have the green one in the Stuffed Ape- I have a theory that this enhances mental powers.  It could be that Visionary is psychic not because of drugs, but because she has been absorbing the energy of the green crystal for her entire life- this would also explain why the Dreamer suddenly became the Dreamer- she recieved the Stuffed Ape and its crystal payload, and the mental-enhancing energies therein.  It would also explain why Man-grove became more sentient after receiving the Ape- the crystal began enhancing its mental capability and giving it more of a sense of self and sapience.

Now, choke:

Choke merges with Deadline's artifact, which is powered by a blue crystal. Begins seeing flaws and how to rectify them.

Chokepoint merges with Unity's bots, which contain fragments of Unity's personality.

Chokepoint merges with the Omnitron IV factory.  She assimilates the leftover remnants of OX in the process, which gives her insight into the future.  This also gives her fragments of Parse's analytical mind (which was opened through exposure to Omnitron fragments + cosmic energy).

Over time, the fragments of Unity/OX/Parse became more integrated with the core Choke personality.

This became CON, and it set about trying to figure out how to avoid the final wasteland scenario.

La capitan (young) came to final wasteland.

The green monkeything took an OX component- which CON used to track her timestream.

Con finds suitable cantidate for timestream repair in Silver gulch.

Punches through to retrieve him, repairs him when rats tear off arm.

Arm contains bits of Choke (to integrate with his biology) and Unity (to reconfigure as needed).  Chrono-badge uses OX technology for time travel.  Bounty system uses Parse's knowledge ot find weak points that could be altered to prevent final wasteland.

BUT- badge got busted before he could complete everything. Repaired by La capitan (old) using time travel tech.

This gave Chrono a measure of peace, as it would take Choke quite a while to assimilate the new tech.  CON is temporarily silenced.

BUT- by the time of Broken city, something has changed.  Choke/CON has re-asserted control and begun mechanizing more of Jim.

I wonder- does anyone even remember the Chrono-Ranger?  did he do his job so well that memories of his presence were edited out of the timestream?

I think there's one more way it could be

Other than CON being this new girl's nemy

the other thing they could do

Is give her a nemesis #2

So that Chokepoint has more than one enemy

"Neme?" :P

I think it means nemesis

Ah, you understand me my friend

The full word was too long in the end

It is never much good

when you're misunderstood

So I hope that this won't be a trend.

How do you feel about the color purple?

Cast: Summon Link Master Pydro

Does this spell work? I'll have to get a hold of Launius for the proper incantation.

Basically, how a single Proletariat at one far end of the map out of LoS can be effected by effects placed on another Proletariat at the other end of the map. Notable examples include: Champion Bot (would the farside Pro get the +2 dice to attacks?). Stealth Bot (would the farside Pro obtain Cover?). Twist the Ether/Foresight/Wrest the Mind (would farside Pro get to reroll his die?).

It won't take me too long to explain

Then you'll have to break out the champagne

You want me to rhyme purple

And while I won't defer, pl-

ease don't ask me to rhyme it again.

Proletariat is a single character(/ally/enemy), but multiple targets. If something says "target", it means a specific Proletariat marker on the board. If something says Character/ally/enemy, it means Proletariat as a whole.

This may cause some minorly Unintuitive interactions, but this rule should cover all cases.

So, if I may expand on this for a second Luther, as long as one Proletariat is adjacent to Stealth Bot to gain cover, that means all Proletariats on the map gain cover?

Stealth Bot: Allies adjacent to Stealth Bot gain Cover
If yes, the same answer I assume would apply to Champion bot, as well as Twist the Ether and Wrest the Mind (but would exclude Foresight as that specifically mentions "targets" and not allies/characters)

What does this mean for Heroic Interception? Can Legacy intercept with a Proletariat he doesn't have LoS to as long as he can see at least one Proletariat on the map somewhere? (Interception uses the "Ally" wording). Would he trade places with the far away Proletariat or would he trade places with the one he can see and potentially cancel the attack out if that particular clone and Legacy were too far away?
