Spite in the Temple of Zhu Long vs K.N.Y.F.E., Unity, NightMist and Expatriette
This is a rough one for sure.
I got Mint…
With only NightMist left standing at 2 HP. She had just used a power so she would have been incapacitated had I chosen to execute Spite’s retaliation damage before Expatriate’s incapacitated ability.
Also I would have lost if that last Oblivion I had played were not 4-1, 3-1, 4-2, or 3-2 (So it was a 50-50 gamble).
First try was a wash. Nightmist can't stand up to the put-stuff-back drug by herself, even with extra card plays from KNYFE. Gonna have to wait for a walk through of this one, I suspect, freaking Spite...
Mint.
Got scary at the end, but it was helpful sort of laying low, drawing cards and setting up heroes for the first several turns until Spite flipped. I put 4 victims under the safehouse the turn before the flip. Unity was doing some damage: she had 6-7 bots (1 raptor) out for a couple of turns prior to the flip (kept alive by Stealth Bot), KNYFE had a bunch of boosting cards out (and the damage reduction one--that was very helpful), and right before Spite flipped, KNYFE played Overdo It, which was KEY for 2 mega-KNYFE turns of Energy Burns and Battle Field Experiences right after the flip.
After the flip, I think Spite had 50 HP, but after KNYFE had a turn, it was down to the mid-20s. Unity ended up incapping, as did Expatriette on that last round, but their incap powers were what let KNYFE play the extra cards and use extra powers to finish Spite off.
KNYFE had 7HP, Nightmist had 10HP and Unity and Expatriette were out.
Mint, with everyone dead but NightMist at 10 hp.
Not much to comment on here; the one drug is annoying as usual, but NightMist is a BEAST when it comes to survivability.
Mint here as well, with Nightmist being the last one left when Spite was down to 25 HP or so. Was a slow, agonising grinding slog, but he finally went down, with Nightmist at 8 HP. I really, I really hate Spite, it just feels like you're barely even playing the game when you go up against him. He handily beats even Miss Information for the title of "Anti-Fun Incarnate".
My second try was more successful than the first, but still not a win. Spent the first few turns double-skipping, minus the occasional pause to destroy Collateral Damage. Once he had all his Drugs out, I started playing cards like mad and saving Victims. He took everyone but Nightmist down, again, and I was able to get him under 30 HP before she finally died. The real sticking point is the darned ninjas!
my favorite part of this is the set-up text. I haven't tried this one out yet, but I'm guessing it really does give you feelings of a slasher movie.
On the stream last night it was confirmed the name comes from a fake slasher film referenced in GTA
I was reading the description (in my head) in a movie trailer narrator voice when I suddenly realized that actually WAS the theme
No Mint for me this time. I completely forgot how to battle Spite and kept using powers, which of course only served to beat myself up. I tried to rally, but too little too late. He did 29 damage to himself on the flip, but by then I couldn’t withstand the barrage.
The second time through I set up a lot more. Knyfe and Expat skipped every power phase, while Nightmist had no trouble weathering the damage and Unity had to put out Bots.
Only managed 19 damage on the flip this time (didn’t take out the Collateral Damage) but the Raptors and Volatile Parts made up for it.
Unity went down right after the flip. Knyfe and Expatriette got 1 turn each, both taking themselves out to deal some damage.
With Spite under 15 and Nightmist at full HP, it was an attrition game. Spite would return the Ring and Mist Form to her hand (keeping out the Amulet), Knyfe had her play the Ring, Unity kept her HP up, and Expat added projectile damage for the eventual break-out power use. All Nightmist did was kept playing Mistform and wait. Then Zhu Long thought Spite looked tasty and a single Lash ended it.
Not the prettiest Near Mint, but it’s there.
I still think Miss Information is worse, but he’s a close second. At least the promo is better, if really hard without the right team.
Mint. Nightmist makes an excellent final girl, doesn't she?
Actually, in my case that wasn't necessary: Everybody lived! It was a pretty near thing, though. HPs: 1, 1, 1, 14. Three guesses as to who the 14 was, and the first two don't count.
Made a few dumb mistakes, but Stealth Bot and Nitrogen Rounds work wonders.
Not only did I get a pretty easy mint, but I also did something I've never done before: killed Spite before he flipped.
I'd be curious how you did that as I did not see a way of accomplishing that.
I don't know how that's possible either, with Spite's retaliatory damage. He heals way too much when you use powers, and the one-shots of these guys just aren't enough to keep up with the rest of his healing.
I did get mint, same way as everyone else, with Nightmist tanking like mad thanks to everyone else's incaps. Well, KNYFE's and Unity's incaps, anyway. This play order works beautifully once the game gets to that point, since Nightmist will have a full stack of equipment and ongoings on her turn. Finished with Nightmist at 19, with the final turn involving Spite getting stabbed by a Shinobi Assassin, then hit three times with Oblivion (one of them being a redirect), then stabbed by the Assassin a second time, and finally getting shot 4 times with Expatriette's incap power boosted by an Elder Ring. Pretty sweet.
It mainly involved liberal use of Raptor Bots and a T1 Stealth Bot. Stealth Bot + Liquid Nitrogen Rounds means you get a round of no retaliatory damage, and in general I was just more willing to not use powers if they weren't helping me, especially once all three Mysterious Ceremonies were in play. Combine with a couple of Mistbounds and by the end of the game, Spite only had three of his drugs in play. Bee Bot was great for handling Master of the Temple getting The True Form. It helps that I never saw a Lab Raid. Expatriette didn't do a ton except for a few critical Nitrogen Rounds and playing enough Equipment to always be able to pick things up. K.N.Y.F.E was... also there, I guess; she at least was able to get some good damage in. Really this is Unity and Nightmist's show.
Odd I never saw the Mysterious Ceremonies or Mistbound until pretty late. I did not get Nitrogen Rounds at all just got all the guns and sadly couldn't use them.
This is a fixed start, right? Maybe I just got lucky with what I searched for and got favorable shuffles. I used both copies of Expatriettes card that searches for Pride or Prejudice on the first turn, iirc.
Yeah it was fixed.
