So there has to be a card called Alpha and Omega? Because I don’t think Fanatic has one…
I find it odd that the twins’ bio primarily refers to Darkstryfe* with his civilian name, rather than his Demon Name. My understanding from the duo’s origin episode was that “Darkstryfe” was the only name he knew until Paynstayke convinced him to adopt “Zane.”
Also Darkstryfe’s flesh-sword is super gross.
I’m not sure if I like that the Æterna and Soul cards have custom borders and colours. Literally no other keywords grant their cards such unique designs—save for Suddenly!, of course, but that makses sense, 'cause you’re supposed to notice it immediately. Why are Soul and Æterna so much more special from than other keywords? If they are, why shouldn’t Modules, Ordnance, Constructs, Mechanical Golems, Citizens, Bonds, Underbosses, Access, Werewolves, Bounties, Clues, or Demons get special designs?†
*You can’t stop me from writing the y.
†Rhetorical question.
I can see two reasons for the different colors. First is based on feedback from, say, Harpy and Alpha or even Tachyon, where the types of cards beyond “one-shot” or “ongoing.” Since a number of powers and options rely on discarding particular sub-types, I can see having something that’s easy to reference. The other reason is it reflects their dual nature, and I suspect that the SWS deck will do the same.
Playtesters insisted on it, to the extent that we color-code our black-and-white prototypes every time Braithwhite hands us a new version. It’s vital that you be able to tell Soul from Æterna cards in your hand at a glance, especially if you build up a big hand.
Holy unholy, the art is SO good! It’s so clean and bright and deliciously edgy and I love it!
Their deck seems hard to grasp without seeing the whole thing. The cards we’ve seen don’t have a ton of draw power, so you’ll need to think carefully about which discard effects to activate (which is good). I don’t think I would choose to use the discard effect on Darkstrife’s base power unless I had a surplus of Ae cards or that 2 damage really made all the difference.
Can’t wait to see what interactions Painstake’s Demon keyword leads to. None of Apostate’s or Aeturnus’ revealed cards seem to affect it.
Also since Darkstrife and Painstake is kinda a mouthful, what’s a good abbreviation for them. D&P? DS&PS? Dark and Pain?
D&P sounds the cleanest to me but just makes me think of Deadpool. Idk.
Goth and Emo?
One interesting thing to me about having Darkstryfe and Paynestake (back at you, @fjur) officially added a a hero deck is that they’ve been established as D-list heroes who only appear in a few isolated issues/arcs in the Multiverse Era. Which means… for future expansions, anything goes! Anyone could appear, no matter how prominent. Fashion! The Adhesivist! Whatever!
Fascinating insight into the process, @MindWanderer.
The Twins
That’s pretty much how I’ve been thinking of them. Could also go with “Edgy Twin” to refer to one or both of them.
Both Edge Twins and Soul Twins have had traction in the fandom as nicknames.
Trajector: I think the criteria at this point is how much we in the real world like a thing regardless of actual metaverse popularity.
(Except for the Telenovelaverse where the more we like it, the more Christopher hates it.)
Speaking of fandom popular things, I forgot to mention it’s interesting to note from the flavor text that the Twins have spoken with everybody’s favorite magic expert with anger management issues.
I think the only solid criteria for new content we’ve had so far is “Christopher and Adam think it’s cool.”
Well, that’s the whole game, really. But in the case of the Twins, I think it’s also “this will be important later.” I mean… They’ve said several times that the Matriarch is only really important as a villain because of Harpy/Pinion.
I’m actually wondering now whether it’s the Twins who are going to be Grimm’s nemesis, due to being the motivating factor in the “Death of Grimm” storyline that C&A are being deliberately cagey about. It would match the “a big thing happens with them late in the Multiverse line” idea. If the next villain comes out today and it’s not a D&P nemesis, we’ll know.
I guess let that be a lesson to me; I have no idea what’s popular in the real-world Sentinels Fandom any more! I thought DS&PS were a footnote and Aeternus was actively off-putting, but those all must have all blown up on Discord or somewhere. All right then! One of the cool things about Sentinels is how they’ve built up so much variety for lots of different folks to enjoy.
Update: Nope, it’s Aeternus, and what an Aeternus it is!
This is a fascinatingly different way to have an angry pack of baddies vying for dominance as opposed to Apex and his werewolves, and I can’t wait to see it in play. Also - different nemesis icons for Darkstrife and for Painstake!
Will there be 7 Demon Princes corresponding to the Deadly Sins?
Confirmed
Lusithar - Pride
Seviathall - Envy
Named
(Not sure all are Princes, may be mere demons)
Abbados - Wrath(?); Army leader that likes to chop off heads
Greezigrax - ???
Mannock - Lust(?); He’s “grabby” per the Q&A in Twins’ foes episode
Belagorr - ???
Ismodial - ???
Unknown Art
Burden of the Crown - whoever looks like they could be Gluttony
Also I’m just gonna throw it out that metagaming-wise The Grey can be considered those friends you’ve tried to convince to play Sentinels with you but they’re just not into it.
I knew some of those were vaguely phonetically familiar! Also just went back to the Æternus update and I take that as confirmation all seven will appear.
Now to write a thematically appropriate letter for the episode coming out on April 18 (US Tax Day) to squeeze out more information about the lord of greed!
Huh, really? Well, I suppose that that makes sense. Thanks, @MindWanderer!

Also since Darkstrife and Painstake is kinda a mouthful, what’s a good abbreviation for them. D&P? DS&PS? Dark and Pain?
'Strife and 'Stake?

If that’s true, my pie-in-the-sky wish would be Fahrenheit X in some form, which is pretty much guaranteed to never happen.
Also, I’m pretty sure that Strife and Pain have had more than just “a few isolated issues/arcs.” Just from looking at their BackerKit update, we can see that they’ve had the Æternal Torment, Pain and Strife, and Soulseekers books, plus their run in Tome of the Bizarre and at least two stories in Disparation.
Okay, so taking into account what @Thunderbird and MindWanderer posted…
- Lusithar = Lucifer = Pride
- Seviathall = Leviathan = Envy
- Abbados = Abbadon = Wrath or Sloth — I agree with Thunderbird that Wrath makes the most sense, but the page that MindWanderer linked to associates Abbadon with Sloth.
- Greezigrax = Beelzebub? or Satan? = Sloth? or Gluttony? — I really have no idea which “real” demon he’s supposed to be, but the only other demons listed on MW’s page are Satan and Beelzebub, neither of which are phonetically similar to Greezigrax. (Except that the latter also has a z sound?) And Sloth seems to match his ineffective demeanour best.
- Mannock = Mammon = Greed
- Belagorr = Belphegor = Gluttony or Sloth
- Ismodial = Asmodeus = Lust
“Hush now, Greezigrax. You’ll work yourself into another one of your stomach aches, and then you’ll be no use to anyone.”
Perhaps this is evidence of him being Gluttony?
Greezigrax quavered as Lusithar turned to behold him. “G-g-great luminescent one. We, ah, that is to say, Seviathall had hoped… we all wanted-- WOULD YOU LIKE THIS ROCK?” Peeling a large stone from the black floor and holding it aloft, Greezigrax cringed with his entire being at the smiting that was sure to follow.
This is fantastic.
@Samantha_The_Demoncat, I feel for you. Why is there a chthonic canine instead of a fiendish feline?

If that’s true, my pie-in-the-sky wish would be Fahrenheit X in some form, which is pretty much guaranteed to never happen.
Didn’t Adam completely forget that Fahrenheit X existed in a recent episode?
