DE Disparation: Guessing time! (Ha ha, time travel pun)

Check out that nemesis symbol.

I think there are three caveats in play here.

The first is that it’s not clear to me, at least, that Rambler knew Gloomweaver would be able to deploy Spite in the real world, rather than just having him as a spiritual minion. Given that C&A discussed this as a time that Rambler’s hubris got the better of him, I suspect he badly underestimated what Gloomweaver would be capable of using Spite.

The second thing is that we don’t know what Rambler got out of this whole thing. Given his “the greater good” approach, it’s distinctly possible that he saved a lot more lives than Spite killed. Which doesn’t make it right, but loops back around to “a hero who’s a bit villainous”.

And finally, Rambler’s current body count seems a lot lower than those of Baron Blade, Akash’Bhuta, Deadline or possibly even Ambuscade, all of whom got hero decks during Oblivaeon.

Deadline and BB, indeed. Akash was deliberately a recreation, a change, and depending on your take on redemption, and I believe in the Mainstay/Stuntman episode, C&A said that Ambuscade had an unusually low body count for a villain.

But yes, point taken.

Oh my… missed that on the first look…

Or where he doubles down on healing and defence while not focusing on damage so much.

True, but the Hero decks of those villains-turned-heroes represent them acting, well, heroic; whereas a Rambler Hero deck would represent his entire morally ambiguous career.

That would certainly make sense—Ambuscade is a hunter of heroes, so the only civilian deaths he would ever really be responsible for would be wholly accidental. Plus Haka is his nemesis, who is always very concerned about defending innocents.

Former Allies remains the saddest art. : ( I wonder if we could convince Adam to release the unobscured art of the new group photo like he did with the original barbecue pic? Also Final Evolution still has one of Blade’s best quotes.

I feel like anyone who knows at least a little bit about Gloomweaver and a little bit about Spite should also be able to trivially put together the idea that giving Spite to Gloomweaver is likely to lead to body counts, gloom, etc.

Since it’s the weekend, let’s get guessing on the upcoming reveals.

Monday, March 20th: Hero Update — Visionary?

Tuesday, March 21st: Principles Update! - Perfect time for Dark Visionary stuff

Wednesday, March 22nd: Villain Update — Dreamer?

Thursday, March 23rd: New Environment Update — The Void?

Friday, March 24th: Hero Update — Omnitron-X?

Monday, March 27th: Villain Update — [redacted]

Tuesday, March 28th: Environment Update — [redacted]

Wednesday, March 29th: New Villain Update — [redacted]

Thursday, March 30th: Hero Update — Knyfe?

Friday, March 31st: New Villain Update — New Knyfe Nemesis?

Monday, April 3rd: Environment Update — [redacted]

Tuesday, April 4th: New Hero Update — [redacted]

Wednesday, April 5th: New Villain Update — [redacted]

Thoughts?

Personally, I think they’ll likely save Visionary for later, probably after Omni-X and KNYFE, if she does have the unique mechanic of a side deck.

Also, hasn’t someone confirmed that the New Environment starts with an “A,” so it can’t be the Void?

Furthermore, I don’t see the need for a new KNYFE nemesis; what’s wrong with ol’ rocketship head? Granted, it’s certainly possible that she’ll get one, but it seems unlikely.

From the near end of the trailer, around 1:19 ish:

Oh yeah while I’m grabbing pics, might as well show what I mean by that villain deck back I was talking about:

that totally says Aeternus :open_mouth:

Hmm, this does bring up an interesting query: @Jeysie’s pix have all-but-conclusively proven that there will be an Æternus Environment Deck in Disparation, which itself lends a lot of credence to the idea that the Twins will also be appearing in this set. But it seems very unlikely to me for there to be both an Æternus Environment and an Æternus Villain, so then who will be the nemesis of 'Stryfe and 'Payne? Martyr or Busybody seem most likely.

Also this:

Six deck blobs but what looks like seven character blobs.

Then, assuming the Hero reveals will just go from right to left, it looks like we can expect it to go Visionary, KNYFE, O-X, and then DS&PS.

Went back over the trailer some more, a few other blink and you’ll miss it type things:

Yeah, that pretty clearly says Aeternus, which almost certainly means that D&P will be the mystery hero. I will go pour one out for La Comodora…

Oh wow, those are pretty clear! Music of the Mists for AA variant Ashen Heir (Nightmist has enough variants for now despite people hoping the decks would somehow combine) and Hero of the Fervor for CC Galactra - very cool!

And I guess that confirms Dreamer with an event card, as if there were doubts she’d appear in the set with Visionary. Nice work!

Yeah, the whole card for those two wasn’t hard to spot, but there’s those particular frames where you can actually make out what the powers are.

You got a really clear shot of Galactra, wow!

It might not deserve to be in Dispiration but I have realized a Nightmist variant that I need- Nightmist from the “Make good choices” special one-shot where she battles the Demon of Cocaine.

For whom would the Cocaine Demon be a critical event? Gloomweaver or Apostate, as they’re demon-adjacent? Maybe a prince of Æternus? Or just a drug user like Spite, and I assume probably Mark Benedetto and Bruce Watkins at some point in the 80s?
