I'm Callin' You Out!

Ehh, Visionary will get those traps into play faster, though...

OH MY LORD.

Third fail, though slightly better. Blade was down to 17 on his second side.

I got kinda crap cards from Parse, but did a reasonable job of building up Wraith, using the eyepiece to keep devious disruption at bay, and using Mass Levitation to keep the environment's damage output down.

Two early leaking rooms slowed me way down. All the traps came out and after the filp another one came out, just as devious disruption got turned over. I'd let my guard down on the villain deck for ONE ROUND. UGH.

Only Wraith survived the devious disruption, and with only 1 HP. She didn't make it to her next turn.

This was a much faster game than the others, only eight full rounds. Both of the previous two were around twelve, with Parse actually decking herself in the second game.

Well, that's it for me on this challenge, at least for now. I only managed to find time to try this because we have a regular every other Tue night Sentinels game that fell through this week. I was looking forward to a fun win. Blech.

True. And the traps are a double whammy – getting the Terra Lunar Impulsion Beam closer to activating.

On the plus side, I did see a Consider the Price of Victory discard three Hasten Dooms.

Yikes! That was quite the challenge. Hang in there…

I just tried it without the traps, and I couldn't even manage that.  Yikes, was I too tough?

I think it's quite exciting that we discovered this. I tend to think of Blade as being a walkover, but he's designed to fight four heroes, not three, and Atlantis is quite difficult. The traps are really a bit of a distraction here. The problem is how to both get enough damage per round while also having enough deck control so you don't get wiped out by Devious Disruption.

Visionary has a lot of deck control, but not enough to assure you won't get Devious Disruption. Wrait can do it with the Eyepiece, but doing so sacrifices a certain abount of damage per round. I'm no expert on Parse. I've seen some breakdowns where she's part of incredible damage output, but I think that depends on there being multiple other hitters in the party, and she's just got Wraith, for the most part.

This scenario _feels_ like it should be winnable, yet we're collectively 0-4.

It seems to me that getting Parse into her Quick Calculation + Critical Hit setup would really help boost damage per round. Visionary can concentrate her power use on feeding Parse cards, using her card plays to do damage whenever possible. Wraith’s job is Razor Ordnance, with a premium on Throat Jabs given the opportunity.

Mega Computers and Mass Levitation could make the environment easier, but my thought is that getting Blade below the heroes makes the environment more of a help than a hindrance. Krakens could be quite valuable.

Also, don’t forget that Leaking Room could work to your advantage if you have Twist the Ether on somebody. (Wraith with Combat Stance, maybe?)

I might try it later today!

Oh, I am in.

Well, 1-4 now, but I used the app.

And a first turn Demoralization and Extrasensory Awareness helped a lot.

We just defeated Blade without the traps, too. He had about twelve cards in his trash when he flipped… But after that, he never did damage again and lasted only two rounds.

  • We got double krakens early on. Blade had enough targets in his deck to keep them busy, until he was tied with Parse and Wraith for 9 HP on his front side. That’s how we flipped him.

  • We also managed the coveted Twist the Ether + Micro Targeting Computer + Combat Stance combo on the Wraith after about round 3-4, dramatically boosting her damage output.

  • After Blade flipped, we were pretty worried about him simply frying us with damage. Visionary was highest HP, so we put her in a cocoon. Her job was to absorb Blade’s hits and discard her hand to manage seaweed.

  • On the last round, Parse managed to throw seven +1s on the Wraith thanks to starting a turn with Snap Decision + Critical Multiplier, playing another Critical Multiplier at the start of turn, and then Recompiling.

We’ll consider shuffling the traps in next.

Dang. I tried the scenario on the app and seemed to be doing pretty well until I wasn't. Didn't even flip him. Sounds like luck's going to play a big role in beating this one!

Yes, finally they did! That was way harder than it should've been.

@Señor Blue Beard: I'm calling you out!

Physical Copy challenge

Holy Sh*t! That's some Messed-up Psycho Crap!

For people who don't mind minor cleanup after the game and are up to the challenge.

Scenario: The Realm of Discord is high on any number of things.

Rules: Choose 5 heroes, one from the F5, 1 from DW, one from PW, one from Vengeance, and one from the base game*. Shuffle their decks together, then deal each hero 40 cards to make their deck. Treat each card as if it has the name of the hero who is playing it. You will be fighting Citizen Dawn in the Realm of Dicord, but put all of the Evironment Targets in the Villain Deck, and put all of Dawn's One-shots in the Environment deck.  There will still be 40-card hero decks, a 25-card Villain deck, and a 15-card Enviro deck, but it'll be screwed up. Also rigged to have That Card come out way too often.

*Any promos are optional.

Digital Copy challenge

The Letters Page

A much tamer game, but still fun.

Scenario: Characters from the Letters page.

Rules: Fight Baron Blade using Legacy, Expat, and Wraith** in any environment. Because you're too scared to hit him, you must wait until the 3rd round begins to deal damage to enemy targets. But if a T-rex chomps on an MDP.... that's not your problem.

**Only variants that may be used are Rook City Wraith and Grandpa Legacy, and Bomber Blade. Again, these are optional.

I'm pulling the Drugged Discord game on my group next game night, so I'll tell you how that goes.

Dear god that's insane and I kind of want to try it. c.c

So, we weren't super-excited about the prospect of fighting Citizen Dawn, but we shuffled Legacy, Ra, Tempest and Fanatic together and went to town on Chokepoint instead. God, that was a fun game. :D Imbued Fire came out and she stood no chance. But it was great, Legacy using Blazing Tornado, Ra with Gene-Bound Shackles, and Fanatic with the Staff of Ra. We had a lot of laughs, is what I'm saying.

Glad you had some fun. I chose Dawn and the Enviro-Vill. switch just so That Card would screw up your game often. 4/30 times (UNLESS YOU USE RC WRAITH!)

Played Parse, Wraith, Visionary vs Blade in Atlantis on the computer.

Three Mega Computers almost completely nerfed the environment.

Extrasensory Awareness and later Infrared Eyepiece kept Devious Disruption getting to play (though it did accelarate cards in Blade's trash).

I carefully made sure that the environment didn't flip Blade, so I'd retain control of Blade's play. Took six rounds to get Blade down to 1 HP. By that time Parse had two Critical Multipliers in play and a Recompile. The Recompile drew another recompile. Parse also had the card that allows her to discard for an extra play at the start of turn. The end result was +14 to Wraith's next attack.

Parse used her base power to flip Blade. Then Wraith used an 8 card Inventory Barage (16) + Critical Multiplier Bonus (+14), as well as a Twist the Ether, to one-shot Blade the turn after he was flipped, in Round 7.

Heroes were all in the mid to high teens, so I'm guessing they could have weathered any traps that showed up.

Starting with Demoralization, Twist the Ether, and Wrest the Mind was nice.

Wraith never actually got out Microtargetting computer, but Razor Ordnance plus help from Critical Multiplier and Twist the Ether turned out to be enough.
